Memorial

General Description of Activity

4,200 West Virginians die every year from tobacco use, but there are no memorials to remember the victims of Big Tobacco’s lies.  These victims are family members – fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, and aunts – who have died because of Big Tobacco.  It’s time they had a memorial.

Gather and write down the names of loved ones your friends have lost from tobacco use.  Hold a memorial service at lunch or at a community event.  Announce who you are and what you are doing.  Read the names you have collected one at a time.  If you can get a bell, ring the bell each time a name is read.  Use poster board or banner paper to create a temporary memorial wall with the names written on it. When finished, let everyone know that you’re with Raze, and that you’re conducting this Commotion so that one day the bell will stop ringing when people stop dying of tobacco use.
