General Description of Activity One in five West Virginians will die from tobacco use. These aren’t just statistics. Drive home that tobacco kills real people by posting “missing you” flyers in your school and community. Why? They’re missed by their loved ones. They’re missed by co-workers. They’re missed in their communities. Remember the message boards in communities for missing people after 9/11? Get some friends together who have lost loved ones from smoking or dipping. Make missing posters with the pictures of family members. Make sure you include the fact that this person died from tobacco use. Put personal things on the poster – something your loved one always did for you and that is a fond memory. Then make sure you let people know that the person was stolen from you by Big Tobacco’s lies. Let everyone know that tobacco kills real people – including the people you loved. Build a message board with the posters. The more friends that participate, the more impact you have on the community.
NOTE: You must get permission from property owners. If you conduct this Commotion at school, talk to your principal. |
