General Description of Activity
We all know tobacco kills 4,200 West Virginians a year – that’s almost 12 people a day, or one person every two hours. Bet you never thought of it in that context. Pretty scary, huh? Where’s the memorial for all the people Big Tobacco has killed? It’s time to make one. Find a busy place where lots of people walk or ride by and get permission to hold an event there. Use posters and pictures to create a makeshift memorial for people who have died because of Big Tobacco’s lies. Make some posters letting people know what the memorial is about and how many people die from tobacco-related diseases in West Virginia each year. This will be the foundation for your memorial. Make sure the Raze logo is somewhere on the memorial. Invite the media to the memorial event, and invite lots of people to attend. Talk about Big Tobacco and how their lies have killed thousands of people, and talk about the people in your life who died because of tobacco. Distribute blank cards on the day of the event and have some pens on hand so that people can write the names of the loved ones they lost to Big Tobacco and attach to the memorial.
Materials Needed Posters, markers, pens, and paper, and duct tape.
Best Place to Perform Commotion Someplace where many people pass by and can see the memorial, preferably out of the weather so your work will last for awhile.
Estimated Number of Teens Needed The more the better. |
