Shortness Of Breath

SHORTNESS OF BREATH

Supplies:
Latex Balloons

Directions:
Ask for 8 volunteers to come on stage to help you with this demonstration.  Males and females both are needed to prove this highly effective point.  Have the students stand single file in front of the class with equal groups on each side.  Pick one of the groups to be the smokers and the other group is non-smokers.  Pass out a balloon to each student and tell the smoking group to start jumping up and down in place.  Now ask each team to start blowing up the balloons but the key is the smoking team has to keep jumping up and down.  Use your own judgment on when to stop the competition.  Ask the jumping team if it was hard to blow a balloon up while jumping up and down.  Then explain that when you smoke it restricts you from participating in physical activities.

Impress upon the students how important it is not to smoke because it limits your body’s ability to do normal activities.

This is an excellent visual aid to reinforce the facts about how cigarette smoking limits your abilities physically and is dangerous to your health.

Feel free to modify each activity based on participant size
